Echoes of the abyss: A Plea from the Earth and Ocean
I am the Earth, your nurturing mother, weary and worn,
From the first step you took, to a new world, you were born.
In your quest for strength, for cities tall and bright,
You scraped my skin and dimmed my light.
With every tree you fell, I felt your ambition’s might,
Yet beneath that progress, I tremble, out of sight.
My roots once tangled in laughter now ache with despair,
Each scar upon my body sings of a burden you bear.
When you sowed the seeds of hunger in the fertile earth,
Did you hear my sighs or feel the weight of my worth?
And you, O Ocean, my sparkling blue friend,
You’ve cradled their joys, you’ve welcomed their send,
But now I see you choked by plastics so cruel,
Dragging life into silence, like a forgotten jewel.
I am the current that flows and ebbs, the waves that crash,
Yet my creatures suffer, lives lost in a splashing flash.
Corals that danced beneath the sun’s bright glow,
Now fade into shadows, wrapped in sorrow and woe.
But do you not see, dear ones, the price of your greed?
Your own bodies bear witness to this endless misdeed.
The pollutants seep in, diseases take hold,
While toxic tides whisper tales both bitter and bold.
Diabetes and asthma, heartaches, and strife,
Each illness a symptom of life out of balance, this life.
The more that you take, the more you forsake,
The health of your bodies, the world we could make.
Why do you forge ahead, blind to the cost?
In your search for more, you forget what is lost.
Each fish that struggles, every creature that dies,
Is a piece of our bond, a tear in our ties.
As the seas grow restless and storms brew with rage,
I, too, feel the fury of your careless age.
“Change course, dear ones,” I plead through the storm,
“Return to love, to balance; let healing become your norm.”
Look up at the trees; listen to their plea,
Let them teach you compassion, let them show you how to be free.
For I am the Earth; I’m in every heartbeat, every sigh,
And together, dear children, under the same vast sky.
Remember the lessons woven in whispers of the night,
Through our pain, there’s power to rise, to make it right.
Let the trees reclaim their stories, the oceans their song,
And may you find your place where all life can belong.
For in every challenge, there lies a chance to mend,
In every step forward, a pathway to ascend.
So let us walk together, hands joined in the fight,
For a world that remembers how to love, how to light.
